Richard Nixon with Willie Mays
Candlestick Park, San Francisco
Opening Day April 12, 1960
Candlestick park was the first modern baseball stadium ever built, and it was the first to be made entirely out of reinforced concrete. Vice President Nixon would soon be running against JFK for the presidency, and on April of 1960, and he threw out the first baseball on opening day of Candlestick Park on April 12, 1960. Nixon is pictured below with SF Giant legend, Willie Mays.
Note: Despite the fact the San Francisco Giants moved to San Francisco in 1958, they played their baseball games at the San Francisco Seals Stadium, until Candlestick was completed in 1960.
